As part of the weeklong July Fourth celebration of 2010, Wawa presented Morris Day and the Time for a free concert at Penn’s Landing. Linda and I traveled to Wayne PA to visit Linda’s cousin Peg and husband Frank. After a day at the Manayunk Arts Festival, we moved on to Center City for dinner.
We took a chance on walking in at Fork, Ellen Yin’s highly regarded restaurant on Walnut St. Being early on a Saturday evening, we were fortunate to be seated. After an amazing dinner and excellent cocktails, we walked down to Penn’s Landing for the free show.

Being late June in Philadelphia, it was a very hot and humid evening. There are times when my body does not handle heat and humidity well, especially when mixed with alcohol. This was one of those occurrences.
Arriving at the crowded amphitheater, my companions wanted to go down into the crowd to find seats. Being in a bit of a state, the thought of being locked into a seat in the heat, stirred up my slight claustrophobia. I remained standing at the top of the seating bowl while they proceeded down to get seated.

Morris Day and The Time soon took the stage, dressed in full three piece suits, fedoras and topcoats. Remember, it was a 90+ day with high humidity. I was amazed that they were thus attired while performing the first few numbers. High energy involving a lot of dancing, I was sweating, just watching them. Morris approached the microphone to greet the crowd.

“Good evening Philadelphia!! You may notice that there is some wetness on Morris Day. You may think that this wetness is sweat, but let me assure you that Morris Day does not sweat.
Have you noticed when you take that bottle of Cristal out of the refrigerator and set it on the counter, a coating of water forms on the outside of the bottle? This is condensation, because the bottle is so much cooler than the room.
So Ladies and Gentleman, what you see tonight is Morris Day condensating….because he is SOOO COOOL!!
With that he shed his hat and topcoat with a flourish and the band slammed into their hit, “Jungle Love”, (oh we oh we oh). If there was a roof, it would have been blown off.
